If you close your eyes and run your hand over your thighs, you can almost convince yourself you have the skin of a 20-year-old. That’s exactly how I feel right now after a shower, where my skin feels extra silky smooth and delicious.

That’s because this post’s special body butter, combined with a good scrub using a hemp glove, really does something special.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’ve been experimenting with making herbal oil infusions. I’ve found an easy way to extract nutrients from herbs using alcohol. So a classic whipped body butter – but with infused herbal oil – gives your skin an extra nourishing boost.

I absolutely love my homemade body butters – for me, it’s the ultimate luxury for the skin. There’s something so satisfying about applying this blend of pure, deeply nourishing and moisturizing oils. And if you exfoliate your skin first with a hemp glove, a sugar scrub, or my Booty Scrub you’re left with fresh, dewy, satin-smooth skin afterwards.

The herbal oil I use in this recipe contains hibiscus and rose. You can find that recipe here, but you can easily substitute it with another liquid oil as shown below ↓

A Bit About the Herbs in the Infused Oil

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), roses have sweet, slightly bitter and warm properties, and is associated with the liver and spleen meridians. Its functions are to regulate qi (life force or energy flow), increase flow, remove blood stagnation, improve digestion, and nourish the skin.

It's also considered an excellent nervine, great for uplifting the mood and alleviating depression. Rose is renowned for having antispasmodic, aphrodisiac and sedative qualities, as well as being anti-inflammatory.

Hibiscus is very rich in vitamin-C and other great skincare and health stuff that I've written a whole blog post about.

Yields approx. 4–5 jars (100 ml each), depending on how much it’s whipped

Props

Ingredients

  • 120 g mango butter

  • 120 g shea butter

  • 30 g (2 tbsp) coconut oil

  • 120 g liquid oil with herbal infusion (or jojoba oil or apricot kernel oil for a lighter feel)

  • 1 tsp arrowroot powder or cornstarch (optional, for a less greasy finish)

  • 30–40 drops essential oil (optional)

Method

  1. In a Melt the mango butter, shea butter, and coconut oil over low heat (around 70°C / 158°F), stirring until fully melted.

  2. Remove from heat and add the infused oil or chosen liquid oil.

  3. Cool quickly in the fridge for 20–30 minutes.

  4. When the mixture is semi-solid (like thick pudding), add arrowroot and essential oils if using.

  5. Whip with a hand mixer for 5–10 minutes until light, fluffy, and creamy.

  6. Optional: Chill for 10 minutes and whip again for extra volume.

  7. Place the mixture in the fridge for 2–3 hours until it begins to firm up at the edges but is still soft.

  8. Add essential oils (if using – I personally skip them in this version).

  9. Whip again for 5–10 minutes until airy and approximately doubled in volume.

  10. Transfer to clean jars with lids.

  11. Optional: Chill for 10–15 minutes to help it set.

  12. Use as you would a regular body lotion.

  13. If your home is above 24°C (75°F), the body butter will soften and should be stored in the fridge.

Shelf life: Stored in a cool, dry, and dark place, your body butter will last 6–8 months

Feel: Body butter is richer and more emollient than a lotion and may feel slightly greasy at first, but it absorbs into the skin after a few minutes, leaving it soft and nourished.
